Hi everyone!

This week, we came out with 2 new articles on our website! Read the full articles at https://everydaymed.wixsite.com/everydaymed/blog! We also opened up applications for 2 new positions in our organization!

This week, I read an article on ScienceNews titled A man in Hong Kong is the first confirmed case of coronavirus reinfection by Erin Garcia de Jesus. I found this very interesting as it was the first story I had heard of coronavirus reinfection. No one really knew whether someone could have COVID twice.

To summarize the article, a man in Hong Kong had initially tested positive for COVID and had many of the symptoms: fever, headaches, sore throat, among others. He then got better and then a few months later, retested positive for COVID-19. What I found interesting was that the second time, he did not have the symptoms of before. This potentially meant he had some immunity to COVID but not enough.

They had also tested his immune proteins to see whether he had antibodies against COVID, where it was negative the first time and positive the second time. His body had built up some antibodies to the virus, showing that it is learning to fight against it.

I found it interesting that they also stated that this case may not be the same for everyone, as everyone could have different levels of immunity to the virus after they are infected once. Someone could have more antibodies to COVID than another person, even if both have only been infected once. It goes to show that there are so many possibilities to how our bodies react or even adjust to COVID, but we won’t know more without more data and research.
